City Council recently voted unanimously to demolish and rebuild the Old Fire House Teen Center in its original location on NE 79th St.
The center had closed abruptly in early 2025 after scoring negatively in a city-wide building inspection. Redmond Parks director Loreen Hamilton made the call to close the center immediately due to safety concerns.
Council made their decision based on a recommendation provided to them by the Old Fire House Teen Center Stakeholder Group, who had been gathering information since the closure to suggest next steps.
Amid the closure, teenagers and alumni of the center formed a group called Save OFH, and advocated to save the historical building. Their petition gained nearly 4,000 signatures.
A statement announcing city council’s decision noted, “In their approval, Council included prioritizing expedience in construction, centering teen voices in the design process, and including music performance space and a dedicated recording studio to continue the Old Fire House Teen Center legacy.”
